Week 16 Part A: Developing Marketing Strategy

Throughout this class we have looked at a variety of outlets through social media that could help amp up a business. For my concept of business, a podcast, it has always made the most sense to use outlets that are more current since podcasts are a more up and coming business. With my target market it makes the most sense to utilize Instagram or Tiktok to accentuate and grow my business. However, I still think Facebook could be am option and I also have come to enjoy some ideas of LinkedIn, but LinkedIn would mostly be used for collaborative work to get ideas and figure out how I can best run the podcast.

I've said before in another post that TikTok is a great platform for many different likes and interests. The most random videos can blow up over night. I've seen people that I've gone to high school with get half a million likes on their videos, and I know that I can make videos that would do the same. It's a platform that you really don't have to make an advertising budget for. You just have to post enough quality content frequently to gain attention and a following. I always said that I would never trust TikTok and especially wouldn't post any TikToks, but after spending time liking enough videos on my for you page I can't get myself off until 2 am. TikTok is the perfect app to post 10-60 second clips from the podcast to give people an example of the show, and it really would be the perfect platform to do so since everyone is on the app to see videos and not just photographs. I mean we could post a slideshow of photos, but I really don't believe that it would be as entertaining or attention grabbing as a short funny video.

Instagram would be a platform that we could have some screenshots from the show to demonstrate how animated we are because I am an extremely animated person, and have been told that I don't need to say a word because my reaction is all over my face. It's no wonder that I'm getting forehead wrinkles at 22...I just can't keep it together. These screenshots are a great option and if we really wanted to do some sponsored posts we could do our company logo to gain some brand awareness, and I know that the content would be able to catch the attention of the right crowd. Both Instagram and TikTok are great outlets for this business. I couldn't tell you if I had a favorite platform out of these two because I never posted on TikTok for the business. If I had to choose a favorite between Facebook and Instagram I would honestly have to choose Facebook solely based on the fact that you can schedule posts. To do so on Instagram I believe you have to go through another application such as Loomly or Hootsuite. Still though, I prefer Instagram and TikTok overall because of my target market.

With the time aspect of social media marketing I think there will be a good chunk of time that will be needed to dedicate to it. This is especially since the business is solely online. It isn't a physical product that I could take out to the streets to ask random people to try. It would be really awkward if I walked up to someone and asked them to watch five minutes of an episode to see if they would laugh. Starting out, I think we would need to make at least 1-2 posts a day for at least 3 months to gain some footing. This would take up probably about 10 hours a week. As the podcast progresses, though, I believe that we could cut the posts down to maybe 3 posts a week to keep ourselves in the back of peoples' minds. This would most likely amount to around 2 hours of work with putting together edits of the videos. This is especially because my partner takes editing classes where I do not, and she is able to make edits very quickly. Overall, the social media marketing wouldn't take very long because the majority of the pieces that go in to the creation of these posts would be from the podcast itself which takes up the most energy and planning.
